"Der Umsetzer" (Feature film)
D 1976, 75 min, bw, Director: Benno Trautmann and Brigitte Toni Lerch

"The story of an old man who, together with other tenants, is moved from his familiar flat in an old building in Berlin to a new district. The man's resistance makes it clear how deep the encroachment on a person's vital roots can be and how far the pressure of the "profit vultures" with a charitable veneer can go. A very clearly and freshly directed debut film that does not convey its humane moral position by way of ideological proof, but communicates it directly through concrete events."

The film deals with the eviction of tenants from the West Berlin districts of Wedding and Kreuzberg. It premiered on 3 December 1976, caused quite a stir and won various prizes. Ninety years after Gropius' visions of open spaces as an element of architectural design, the film contributes to current discussions about housing in urban centres.
